Sorry

Hello,

Well I woke up today very sick, which is a major disappointment because you never want to travel long distances while you are sick. I tried to think of something interesting but easy to talk about, so I thought I'd talk about the word sorry.

True story, Koreans do not have a word for sorry, they just simply do not say sorry to one another. However they do have a word that roughly translates to, "it's okay". So in other words, say you were to drop something heavy on your friends toes, you would not say sorry for it but instead your friend would say it's okay.

Grant it for a long time now Koreans have adopted the English word sorry and say it on a regular basis to one another. But in my time spent in Korea I couldn't help but notice they are a bit more pranksterish than most people, and I think it might be because they know if they play a trick on their friend, he will simply say, it's okay. Hope you enjoyed this random fact of the day, something to spread at parties to sound smart.

Peace,
Wintermute

  1. Interesting. I have a friend from south korea, and she speaks the language fluently, I'll have to ask her about this. And now I've forgotten what the second half of my comment was...

  3. Oh well I never said Koreans aren't nice, usually they are wonderful people to be around. Don't think i'd live in their country if I didn't like em any.
