Cell Phone

Hello,

Wintermute here with another daily dose of Dumbr. Figured I'd take the time to go over getting my cellphone. Its been a bit of hassle for me, it really shouldn't be for you. Basically you cant get a cell phone until you have an ID Card, which should only take a week. For some odd reason it will take over a month for me. So the immigration office has decided to give me a certificate that says i will receive an id card later. This allowed me to make a bank account and was supposed to work to get a cell phone.

Yesterday I went to go get a new phone but was turned down because the certificate wouldn't work only an id card. So I left the store and started walking, I reached a crosswalk light and while waiting the people of the store came up and offered to give me any phone I wanted for free when i return with my id card.

Generally speaking phones in Korea are expensive for foreigners because they think we will sign a two year contract to get the free i-phone 4 and then run off back to America. So I'm very lucky to be able to receive a free phone later this month.

Your Teacher,
Wintermute

  2. Congrats :p I find cell phones over rated unless it's for business. My cell phone is on pay-as-you-go. I only use it for business also... :D

  7. the foreigner ID card is a hassle... there's so much you just can't do in Korea if you don't have one. you used to be required to enter your ID# even when ordering from an online store...
