Battleship

Hello,

Welcome and thank you very much for coming to DUMBR. This is Wintermute, your ever loyal blogger with yet another wonderful idea. Yesterday I made a new game for my students. Its meant to help them study as their Finals are coming up shortly. Essentially its just a variation of the classic board game battleship but with an English Twist.

In the game of battleship two partners go face to face in all out war on a 10 by 10 grid. You place your ships where you feel most strategically advantageous and then take turns calling out points on their board trying to find their ships. Opponent 1 says to the other "B-5", Opponent 2 will say either "HIT" or "MISS" depending on if a ship was hit.

I made a 10 by 10 grid, on the left hand side I wrote the start of a questions i.e. "Do you have a", or "Do you play". and then in their respective column wrote the end to the question, i.e. "Father", or "Wii". So now Opponent 1 will say to the other " Do you have a father?", Opponent 2 will respond with either "Yes I do", or "no I don't" depending on if a ship was hit.

I went ahead and pre-placed the ships, I figure this will save time because I can print it all together instead of cutting out little ships. Also saves time in class so students don't spend half a year deciding where to place their ships. Also so they cant rearrange ships mid game to cheat. And less materials for me to keep track of. I also lamented each play board so students can just use markers.

Your Teacher,
Wintermute

  6. Cool idea, battleship brings fond memories of long road trips back when I was 6 or 7. It was the only way to get my sister and I to shut up or stop fighting.
